FAQs

What’s your rate?

Fees for Typecast services are simple and straightforward. Contact me directly for details.

What’s the difference between editing and proofreading?

In editing work, I’ll provide suggestions for different verbiage, reworking order, etc. Proofreading is simpler, providing just changes required to ensure that grammar and usage are correct.

Is my job too small?

I don’t think so! Because I’d love to be anything from your go-to feature writer to your personal editor or second set of eyes, I can take on something as simple as a LinkedIn post or a single cover letter. And, because those simple editing jobs don’t take much of my time, they’re a great value for you!

How long does it take to finish projects?
Let’s talk. Depending on my workload, simple editing work can sometimes be turned very quickly. Writing work will take longer, of course, but I’m here to help you meet your goals however I can.

What kinds of stories are you most comfortable writing?

I worked for many years in higher education. Much of my published writing was personal profiles, but I can also write newsy stories, draft press releases, speeches, talking points, etc.

Do you have references/samples?

Yes, I will gladly provide samples and references by email.

What do you mean by typecast?
As you can probably tell by now, this Typecast has nothing to do with acting. It’s just a fun way to think about how we can work together to shape (cast) stories in the best possible way. The same is true for editing. I’ll help you “cast” (or recast, as the case may be) words and ideas to ensure they’re as clear and concise as possible.

Why is your cover photo of an antique typewriter?

I’m an antique! That’s true, but in all seriousness, the classic image of a typewriter represents the skill and experience I bring to the table. While I respect that we’re living in AI’s world, the image reminds me that I offer the kind of thoughtfulness, nuance, and human experience that artificial intelligence has yet to master. I’m proud to be doing this work the old fashioned way.
